Russell Street
The Elliot neighborhood along
Russell Street has seen huge
growth in the past 15 years. The
Widmer Brothers Brewery moved
into the neighborhood in 1992 and
began building a facility to brew
some of the finest ales and lagers
in Portland accompanied by hearty
German cuisine. With completion of
their expansion in 2008, they’ve
become the largest brewer in the
city and house the largest fermentors
in Oregon. In the late 90’s, the
McMenamins White Eagle Saloon
opened to offer the neighborhood
another venue for food, drink and
entertainment. Soon thereafter Mint
and 820 gave the area some more
nightlife. Across the street, staff at
Wildroot Hair Salon are ready to
beautify your locks. You can easily
access these establishments by
taking the Interstate Max Line to
the Albina/Mississippi stop.
As you travel east on Russell Avenue, you will find more fabulous dining establishments including Russell St. BBQ and Toro Bravo. You can also enjoy live music at the Wonder Café and Ballroom, which was recently renovated to accommodate the popular bands that frequent Portland and make it an eclectic music town.
