Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
Literally dozens of ethnicities and
cultures are represented on Martin
Luther King Jr. Boulevard in the
form of award-winning cuisine,
products, services,
entertainment, and
education resulting
in some of the
richest diversity
found in Portland.
Community
gathering spots are
abundant and mix
well with the many
new retail, office,
and housing developments that
have sprouted up along the
Boulevard. Among the most
notable are VanPort Square, Grant
Warehouse, the Heritage Building,
and LEED certified projects like the
Henry V Building with roof stormwater collection and biofiltration
swale, and the 85-unit Shaver
Green apartment complex. The
annual “Spiffin Up MLK Blvd” event
held every April brings
out hundreds of
neighbors and
businesses to
demonstrate their
pride and passion
for “The Soul of
Portland.”
Formerly Union Avenue until officially renamed in 1989, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard runs north and south beginning at NE Hancock. The business district from Hancock to NE Columbia Boulevard is represented by the North/ Northeast Business Association.
